Maithan Dam

Maithon Dam is located in Maithon which is about 48 kms from Dhanbad. Maithon Dam, is a popular tourist and travel destination & picnic spot in Dhanbad. Maithon is famous for the 165ft (50m) high river Dam & Asia's first underground hydroelectric power plant built on river Barakar, and a water reservoir which spans over 65 square kilometres. Nearby attractions- Dam, Deer Park, Kalyaneswari Temple, Shiv-Parvati Temple on Bhandar Pahar, Millenium Park, Hydel Power,Dam, Garh Panchkot, Jain Temple, Lameyar park. Maithon is termed as mother's abode. It is under constituency of Dhanbad district of state Jharkhand. Maithon Dam falls in Chota-Nagpur region. Beside Maithon flows the Barakar River, which is a tributary of river Damodar. On the river Barakar, there is Maithon hydroelectric project of Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). The Barakar River divides the border of Jharkhand and West Bengal. The place is quite interesting. On the right bank of Barakar, there is the Maithon Township, falls in Jharkhand. And on the left bank, there is Left Bank Colony, falls under Kalyaneswari region of West Bengal.
